Despite ever increasing awareness of the dangers, many people in Georgia, and throughout the U.S., get behind the wheel after drinking alcoholic beverages. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc., alcohol-related crashes<\/a> cause close to 13,000 deaths and hundreds of thousands of injuries every year. Often, the effects that alcohol consumption has on the human body are contributing factors in these types of collisions.<\/p>\n

How does alcohol affect the body?<\/h2>\n

Once in the system, alcohol has a range of effects on the human body. These effects may begin to manifest after as little as one beverage. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people with a blood alcohol content level of .02 percent may experience impaired judgment and relaxation. As more alcohol is consumed, people tend to have reduced levels of alertness, lowered inhibitions, loss of muscle control and coordination, and slower than normal reaction times. In high amounts, alcohol consumption may also cause people to vomit, black out or pass out.<\/p>\n
